There’s a lot of misinformation out there about dental implants. But thankfully, these durable, permanent restorations have a proven track record backing them up. If you’ve been wondering what’s the real truth about these powerful prosthetics, here’s some helpful information to help you separate fact from fiction!

They Have a High Success Rate

If you’ve heard anything about the downside of dental implants, its likely that they can fail to properly fuse to your jawbone. But while it’s true that dental implant failure does happen, this is very rare. In fact, today’s dental implants have a 95 percent success rate, so odds are as long as you follow your dentist’s aftercare instructions, yours will survive, too!

They’re More Affordable Than You Think

While dental implants used to be much more expensive, today they can be very affordable. Plus, when you consider that they’re permanent and won’t need to be replaced every five to ten years like dentures do.

They’re Strong

While it is possible to break your dental implant crowns if you don’t use them properly (such as to crunch ice, tear packaging, or bite your nails) the implant posts themselves are made of a durable metal alloy that is used in missiles and airplanes! They will never rust or break in your mouth, but the metal still is able to fuse with your jawbone and gums without causing a reaction.

They Can’t Get Cavities

One of the downsides of real teeth is that they can get painful cavities. With dental implant crowns, they’re not biological, and thus they cannot decay like their natural counterparts. That being said, they still can stain, and you can still get gum disease if you don’t take care of your oral hygiene, so it’s very important that you continue brushing and flossing and seeing your dentist twice a year for your semi-annual checkups, even if you’ve had a full-mouth replacement.

Remember, today’s dental implants are durable and functional, and have a higher success rate than ever before. If you’re considering restoring your smile with the help of these natural-looking prosthetics, it’s one of the best choices you’ll ever make!
